Stimulus
Our new executive and committee

by Tim Scapillato

Tim Scapillato is a consultant working for Public Works and Government Services Canada. He is currently our Chapter's newsletter editor.

The new STCEO executive for the 1998-1999 season was elected at the RMOC on April 2 during the annual general meeting. The outgoing executive is to be commended for several ambitious initiatives, including a joint Wine and Cheese reception with the Institute of Technical Editors in September, the online communication competition, and the February mini-conference. As president, Sharon Morgan provided strong and innovative leadership. During her tenure, chapter membership increased almost 10%, climbing well over the 300 mark. Congratulations to Sharon and the other executive members for their efforts. They have set high standards for the next executive.

Although the executive consists of five members
(president, past president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer), it takes many more than that to keep the chapter running smoothly. Listed below are the many committees which are required to look after things such as volunteer coordination, competitions, social events, student affairs, the newsletter, the Web site, and education. These activities are crucial to the survival of any chapter, and they rely entirely on volunteers-members like you who agree to step forward and offer to help keep the chapter alive. These activities don't consume an inordinate amount of your time, but they do require individuals with initiative and ideas. Think of this as an opportunity to get hands-on experience (which looks good on your resume), and a chance to network (which could help you in a future job search). If you are interested in helping out, contact any member of the executive listed below.
