Senior Technical Writer (Contract, 12 to 14 Months)

THE CLIENT

Our client is recognized as a leading networking software company with sales internationally and a strong and seasoned management team. They have also been recognized with several prestigious awards.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This 12- to 14-month contract is an ideal opportunity for an experienced, senior-level technical writer.  In this role, you will be responsible for managing our client's knowledge center.  You will scope technical writing projects, manage deliverables, and set priorities for a talented team of writers.  You will work with the management team to set strategies and goals and with developers to realize the achievement of those goals.  You will have an opportunity to manage schedules and deadlines while producing technical documentation for both hardware and software in a vibrant, dynamic environment.

THE REQUIREMENTS

As our ideal candidate, you have a degree in technical communications and several years of experience scoping and developing effective and consistent technical documentation.  In addition, you have proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills.  You also have strong experience with FrameMaker, the Adobe suite of products and with Help systems tools. Experience in technical writing for network solutions is a definite asset.  You will provide a portfolio of your work as a part of the selection process.

Brief Posting Description

Oracle Communications has an opening for a curriculum eveloper/trainer in Toronto, Canada. You will:

  • Create and revise curriculum and product documentation.
  • Build training environments to be used to train Oracle employees, system integrators, and customers on the Oracle Communications Order and Service Management product.
  • Deliver training to internal Oracle audiences and system integrators.

Extensive knowledge of and experience in the ordering management domain of the telecommunications industry is a must. In addition, excellent information development, training, and research skills, and the flexibility to manage changing deadlines and priorities are essential. You must have the proven ability to meet deadlines, exercise good judgment to resolve problems, and create high-quality work.

Detailed Description

The Senior Principal Consultant/Instructor is responsible for the success of their assigned Oracle learning management/training events and committed to superior customer service. Subject matter experts with demonstrated superior skills in their specialty areas, they are expected to delegate, supervise, and develop other team members, both professionally and technically.

The Senior Principal Consultant/Instructor is expected to quickly master new technology, offerings, and internal processes as well as assisting others in their preparation. Manage aspects of the customer event or project (i.e. instruction, application implementation, environment, setup, assessments, communication, curriculum development, tutor etc.) to ensure success. Design and develop new offerings, approaches, and solutions which meet customer business needs and create innovative tools, processes, and templates to produce quality deliverables. Advise and support junior team members in their professional development. Ability to teach new technical material, deliver new service offerings, and/or implement new Oracle Applications modules with minimal preparation time. Meet utilization targets.

  • Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization.
  • MS or equivalent functional or professional experience preferred. Has obtained one or more industry recognized certifications (OCP, CPA, CPIM).
  • Has 5+ years technical or professional experience using Oracle products, methods or related software. Has 5+ years consulting experience or experience teaching adult learners.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of installing and configuring Oracle WebLogic Server, creating and configuring domains, clustering.
  • ·Knowledge of Eclipse IDE a plus.
  • ·Knowledge of XML, XML Query, Schemas a plus
  • ·International travel.
